About Us

At Summit Dermatology and Spa, our Skin Cancer Specialist is Board Certified in Dermatology, Dermatopathology and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery (Mohs Surgeon) who is also an expert in facial reconstruction. This allows us to successfully remove very serious skin cancers in sensitive and visible areas while also providing our patients with the best possible cosmetic outcomes. With the Mohs technique, we are able to treat the most common forms of skin cancer, Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma. We can also successfully remove the most serious tumors such as Melanoma and even very rare forms like Merkel Cell Carcinomas, Keratoacanthomas, and Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans (DFSPs).

Rahul Chavan, MD, PhD

Dr. Rahul Chavan graduated with his medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine. He earned his Ph.D. in the biomedical and biological sciences at Emory University. He completed his internship and residency training in dermatology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He then completed a fellowship in dermatopathology, a subspecialty of pathology that focuses on diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases, at the Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Chavan has special interests in the treatment of melanoma and other skin cancers in which he uses Mohs surgery, the most effective and advanced treatment for skin cancer today. It offers the highest potential for cure even if the skin cancer has been previously treated by another method. He continues to pursue translational research projects that may lead to more effective cures of skin cancers including melanoma. In his spare time, Dr. Chavan enjoys cycling and reading.

Sarah Owen, MSN, ARNP, FNP-C

Sarah is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Nursing and Health Studies Nurse Practitioner MSN Program. With 5 years of experience as a dermatology provider, Sarah is proficient in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of common and complex skin conditions. She has a passion for providing culturally competent and individualized care for all skin concerns with a focus on prevention, education, and promotion of healthy habits to ensure her patients feel good in their skin. Sarah is accepting new patients ten (10) years and older.
